Corpoguajira, from its responsibility in the department of La Guajira, tends to promote and articulate itself in processes that aim at the conservation of species.; such as the case of the hicotea, which is threatened in the category vulnerable to extinction. (Vu) according to the resolution 1912 of 2017, given the reduction greater than or equal to 30% in the last three generations.

Therefore, The Corporation is articulated once again with the Iguaraya Foundation who have a civil society reserve “La Esperanza” located in the municipality of Dibulla and it is the ideal setting for the return home of these 1.222 individuals. This Foundation is committed to the conservation of species, research and awareness through environmental education in educational institutions in the area.

Students from the Nuestra Señora del Pilar Educational Institution and the Miguel Pinedo Barros Educational Institution joined the release of the species, getting to know the importance of hicoteas and babillas in their natural ecosystem. These types of exercises contribute to the improvement of environmental practices and the propagation of the message of preservation of fauna and natural resources provided by the environment in general..
