The environmental authority advances important actions against land degradation, benefiting, mainly, a indígenas Wayúu, that live in the most affected areas.
Corpoguajira, as the highest environmental authority, advances important actions against land degradation, Desertification and mitigation of the effects of drought; additionally for the sustainable management of ecosystems in dry areas, from the application of measures that allow preventing, retain and reverse these processes and contribute to the sustainable development of the affected areas.
In this sense, projects such as the installation of eco-efficient stoves stand out, an alternative to mitigate pressure on forest resources and pollution to the atmosphere due to the emission of particulate matter, contributing to the decline of respiratory diseases, and stomach cancer.
It is also important to mention the construction and delivery of exploration and development wells in Riohacha, Maicao, Manaure, Uribia and Carraipia; the Sustainable Rural Energization Plan for the department of La Guajira; the construction of six reservoirs and three aerodesalination mills; the declaration of more than 218.000 you have protected areas (including national); the edition of the Semi-detailed Study of Soils and Land Zoning in Middle and Lower Guajira, Escala 1:25.000 and active and passive restoration work in several basins of the department.

Desertification is the degradation of drylands, semi-arid and dry sub-humid areas; mainly caused by climatic variations and human activities, such as cultivation and overgrazing, deforestation and poor irrigation. This phenomenon does not refer to the expansion of existing deserts, occurs because dryland ecosystems, covering one third of the total land, are extremely vulnerable to overexploitation and inappropriate land use.
