Corpoguajira advances actions to recover wetlands, improve urban habitat and mitigate the effects of climate change.

This commemoration was adopted in 1971 by the World Wetlands Convention in Rasmar (Irán), in order to advance actions at a global level, that allow the conservation of wetlands and their resources.

La Guajira has more than 30 wetlands that favor flood mitigation and coastal erosion. This important ecosystem is the habitat of several species of flora and fauna., It also receives a large number of migratory birds every year.. Among the most important are La Laguna Salá, Tomarrazón Swamp, Laguna Washington, Canaverals Wetland, Shrimp Lagoon, Laguna Grande and the Buenavista Swamp.

Currently these ecosystems face different anthropogenic threats that endanger their dynamics., which is why Corpoguajira began the work that will allow the implementation of the environmental coexistence program for the conservation of the Laguna Salá wetlands, Esperanza, Bocagrande, 31 October, The Mercedes (Riohacha) and the Navío Quebrado lagoon (Shrimps).

This initiative, led by the Environmental Education Coordination of Corpoguajira, It is because bodies of water are used by those who live in their surroundings., to deposit garbage and waste that is not collected by the city's formal collection system. As part of the work, the community participates in training sessions, cleaning work, community cleaning and recreational activities, to generate a change in attitude that allows the conservation of this ecosystem.
