The Regional Autonomous Corporation of La Guajira, Tips recommends (Departmental and Municipal) Risk Management Disaster and the community in general, the importance of measures to mitigate the maturation phase of El Niño, during the first months of 2016, according to the statement by the Institute of Hydrology, Meteorology and Environmental Studies (Idea).

Given the severe drought affecting the department the Regional Autonomous Corporation of La Guajira, with support from the National Army, actions initiated adequacy of deposits and release the channel of the rivers Rancheria and Tapias, for communities benefiting from water resources in these basins can continue to use the water for their work.

Corpoguajira work have allowed a significant regulating the flow of such water bodies. Contributing to the increase of liquid flow downstream of rivers Ranchería, Tapias and channel Robles, benefiting in this era of climate adversity, to population centers that cater resource for various activities.

The environmental authority also issued Resolution 02339 the 29 December 2015, through which the awarded concessions on the river Tapias restricted, to adjust the flow to the real deal in this age of excessive drought authorization decreasing its volume in the order given percentage of its peak regarding its use:

  • authorize 33% concessioned flow in liters per second runway Robles channel, for agro-industrial uses.
  • authorize 25% the concesionado flow in liters per second of the main channel of the river Tapias, below the water intake channel of oak trees for industrial uses.
  • authorize 75% concesionado flow in liters per second of the main channel of the river Tapias below the water intake channel of oaks and the channel of the same channel for livestock uses.
In addition, this week a consultation meeting was held with rice farmers, in which measures allowing the capture of resource equitably and rationally analyzed users, thus ensuring water supply to the inhabitants of the towns that are supplied from these rivers for their domestic activities.
