The Andean Bear (Tremarctosornatus), also known as spectacled bear, South American bear, ucumari and Jukumari, has a medium size compared to other species, this is between 1,30 and 1,90 m tall and weighs on average between 80 and 125 kg.
This species lives in sub-Andean forests, Andean and paramos of the 3 cordilleras; In the department of La Guajira, its habitat is in a páramo area in the Serranía de Perijá Integrated Management District, in jurisdiction of the municipalities of Urumita, Villanueva, the Jagua del Pilar, Fonseca and El Molino where there is a record of sighting of the forest guardian.
The importance of Andean bear conservation for the department of La Guajira:
