Historically, sea turtles in the world have been affected by human consumption., coastal erosion and illegal trafficking. In this situation, environmental authorities, universities and communities have undertaken ambitious plans for the conservation and recovery of the species.
In an act of integration of the Corpoguajira National Environmental System and the CVC with the help of grassroots communities, carried out a process of simultaneous release of sea turtles in both oceans, Atlantic and Pacific, in total they were released 250 turtles.
ATLANTIC
On the Atlantic Coast the Regional Autonomous Corporation of La Guajira, Jorge Tadeo Lozano University, Petrobras and the Palomino community, have been leading for 5 years a clutch protection program to safeguard the species.
“A turtle can be more than 100 eggs in a single clutch, but what we are looking for is that in six months they can reach the 20 cms so that they compete with their predators and the species can survive”, comments Aminta Jaugieri professor Jorge Tadeo Lozano University leader sea turtle conservation project.
In the world it has been identified 7 species of sea turtles that travel enormous distances in migration processes. In the town of Palomino, municipality of Dibulla, the release process of 119 turtles.

Meanwhile, in the peaceful Valle del Cauca, the liberation of 131 olive ridley turtles in the Port of Spain sector, within the framework of the community monitoring program for sea turtle nesting areas, expected in the next few days, that hatch (burst eggs) two more clutches.
