4 Indigenous peoples of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta committed to the conservation of its territory

In recent days the meeting preconsultation and opening took place with 4 Indigenous peoples of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, taking into account that from Corpoguajira the resources for the conservation of guajiro territories were managed.

8 projects that are in prior consultation to guarantee the formulation of the planning and management plan for the basins, the declaration of a protected area in coastal wetlands the sustainable use and conservation of biodiversity in dry ecosystems, the declaration of an area of ​​ecosystem interest for legal protection in the district of Caracolì, Sabana la Manuela and other projects that will have a high impact.

The indigenous community was represented by the Technical Secretary of the CTC, and delegates of governor councils of the Kogui peoples, Kankuamo, Arhuaco, Wiwa and community in general. The meeting was also preceded by the delegate of the Ministry of the Interior, Director Corpoguajira, project staff and consultants.

In this first meeting a consolidated of the current state of the projects executed by the Corporation was presented., where the participation and involvement of indigenous communities is recognized as essential; thus incorporating the guidelines, view, ancestral principles and criteria with the proposed planning instruments for conservation and protection.

The day ended with the approval of the Methodological Route for the development of the prior consultation process and the signing of a political agreement between the indigenous peoples of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta and Corpoguajira, agreeing on a commitment for the recovery and conservation of the natural resources that live there.
