Corpoguajira, as the highest environmental authority of the department, works in coordination with the National Police, the Attorney General's Office and several NGOs, in the fight against illegal trafficking of flora and fauna. The methodological strategy implemented consists of carrying out coordinated work with the authorities, for the execution of patrols, environmental checkpoints, environmental awareness workshops for educational institutions and the general population and permanent information campaigns.

In this sense, during 2013, have been seized 490 specimens of various species, including: birds, felines, small mammals, primates, reptiles and turtles; additionally products such as eggs, skins, paws, turtle heads and shells.

During the year, The most confiscated species has been the Cardonero Perico (96 specimens), followed by the owls (82 individuals).

The seized animals are valued by professionals from Corpoguajira, They subsequently enter a period of observation and rehabilitation, to be later released into their natural habitat.
