5 INDIGENOUS COMMUNITIES Wayuu MAICAO WATER WILL HAVE TO EAT THE APTA 24 HOURS

Water scarcity has been one of the priority problems of the indigenous population of the Upper and Middle Guajira, for whom it has been increasingly difficult to obtain this precious resource for human development both, and animals and more to establish productive projects that generate less food to for support, achieving lower rates of malnutrition affecting mainly to children.

In the department of La Guajira, studies published by the IDEAM realize the high vulnerability of their populations and the urgent need to take measures for adaptation to situations arising from climate change as they are: extension of the El Niño phenomenon, increased intensity of rainfall and less frequent, Rising sea levels, increased erosion, gradual increase in temperature, water shortages, inter alia.

Given the above, Corpoguajira through its professional team identifies these needs in indigenous communities KULULUMANA, CEURA, SHULEMA, JISEMANA AND FLOWER OF SAVANNAH settled in the jurisdiction of the municipality of Maicao in the department of La Guajira; where water shortages for most of the year is one of the most serious problems and ways for their inhabitants.

A commitment to providing tools that improve the quality of life of these 5 vulnerable communities through the management of the project "IMPLEMENTATION OF ACTIONS TO MITIGATION AND ADAPTATION TO CLIMATE CHANGE IN DROUGHT INDIGENOUS COMMUNITIES OF THE MUNICIPALITY OF MAICAO, GUAJIRA ", which this time will be executed by the contractor Union Temporal Deep Well over a period of 8 months.

Such execution of work includes obtaining environmental permits from the ANLA, drilling deep wells, install photovoltaic systems and submersible pumps, build high storage tanks, install filters for water treatment system and implement risk drip agricultural parcels; activities to be undertaken simultaneously in the 5 communities in order to take advantage of the benefits of the project is generated same time.

Corpoguajira is highly committed to the management and implementation of projects or activities that contribute to the sustainability of the department, protection of water resources and generation of actions to mitigate impacts on vulnerable communities within their jurisdiction.
