The visit of the highest environmental authority of the department to communities is part of the strategy, "Corpoguajira closer".
By: Communications Equipment
Corpoguajira makes a presence in the different communities of the department, in order to present the institution's institutional offer, clarify concerns about the projects currently being executed and the environmental permits granted by the entity.
In this sense, the Corporation socializes the indigenous communities of El Rocío and Tigre Pozo (India), the scope of the Comprehensive Environmental Compensation Plan which Cerrejón must comply with due to the permits granted by the environmental entity and the National Agency for Environmental Licenses (ANLA), for the multinational to develop works in the La Puente pit, which consists of intervening a section in the lower basin of the Bruno stream.
With this compensation plan, Corpoguajira has doubled the offer in social benefits for communities, not contemplated in the regulations; where it only requires compensation for forest harvesting, closure of closure and channel occupation.
At the national level, This plan would be somewhat novel because it focuses directly on guaranteeing the availability of water resources to populations, forest conservation and community work.
Compensatory measures include, the recovery and restoration of degraded areas in the middle and upper part of the Bruno brook water factory with the planting of 17 thousand 500 closed species, provide alternative access to water, the implementation of a landscape tool for the improvement of plots or farms, community training throughout the process, the inclusion of productive projects for long-term sustainability.
As a novelty of this compensation plan, for five years, families who commit to the conservation of the natural resource in the intervened area will be given monthly economic incentives. Additional, the Corporation contemplates the installation of sanitary units and ecological saving stoves in homes, in order to improve the living conditions of these communities and avoid the indiscriminate cutting of trees for domestic use.
Likewise, the Corporation commits the community through a conservation agreement, to take care of the stream basin, to avoid bad practices that negatively impact the course of the Bruno. Similarly, the entity will carry out regular monitoring and follow-up in the communities, In order to verify if the actions contemplated in the plan were carried out by Cerrejón.
He attended this meeting, the general director, Luis Medina Toro with a delegation from the Corporation, representatives of the multinational Cerrejón, the Traditional Authority of El Rocío and leaders of the area.
