The Regional Disaster Care and Prevention Committee of La Guajira, CREPAD, YELLOW ALERT was declared, throughout the department in the presence of a strong tropical wave, off the coast of Venezuela, produced by the climatic effects derived from the hurricane season and which is advancing slowly towards the peninsula.
The alert was decreed last night and will remain in place until the tropical wave does not produce substantial changes that indicate its fading or progressive evolution., which would imply issuing a new orange alert, by CREPAD.
The CREPAD, requested the mayors of the municipalities that have jurisdiction in the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta and the Serranía del Perijá, Inform communities to take preventive measures against landslides due to saturation of mountainous soil, rising in the rivers and areas surrounding the bodies of water that descend from these mountain chains and that could cause floods and avalanches due to the overflow of their flows..
Special alert notice is issued to communities located downstream of the Ranchería dam, besides the rivers, Tapias, Maria Mina, Sherry, Reeds, Width, Shrimps, Palomino and Villanueva. They are requested to immediately notify relief agencies if changes are observed in their behavior and flow levels..
