Yellow alert in several municipalities of La Guajira, by vaguada in the Caribbean

Therefore the SAT informs emergency authorities that the 7 the 13 May 2012, heavy rains could arise with thunderstorms near the Perijá and Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta , because the presence of a trough in the Caribbean Sea.

Additionally there is a high likelihood of sudden rising and / or slow the rivers flowing from these mountain systems, and the occurrence of landslides, gales and floods.

The phenomenon of vaguada, It is a cold air intake lowering of the upper layers of the atmosphere, that upon contact with warm air near the earth's surface, produces cloudiness and constant rainfall.

Corpoguajira recommended special vigilance and permanent rivers (Tapias, Sherry, Reeds, Width, Palomino and Villanueva). The maximum environmental authority calls the Departmental Council and Municipal Councils for the Prevention and disaster relief and community in general, take preventive measures to help prevent emergencies that may arise in their jurisdiction.

Corpoguajira makes the following specific recommendations:

-Keep Calm emergency in all circumstances.

-Do not handle electrical appliances in damp, or touch wet walls, lighting columns, light boxes or exposed wires in the street.

-Motorists should take extra security measures, especially circular low beam headlights on and wear a seat belt at all times.
