Con la implementación del Sistema de Monitoreo de Áreas Protegidas de La Guajira – SIMAP- , the highest environmental authority of the peninsula and the Association of Biologists of the University of the Atlantic, contribute to organizational strengthening and to provide a response to the need to build capacity for the study of biodiversity, natural hazards and potential sources of water for the region.

With this project, which it involves the use of a mobile phone application, will be advanced contrl, surveillance, monitoring and tracking, with a view to recovery, conservation and protection of Protected Areas, with participation, training and community organization, through sustainable alternative technological and social innovation to contribute to their rehabilitation and work for the increased supply of basic goods and ecosystem services for human survival.

The application can be downloaded SIMAP cell or tablets, where users access information on environmental determinants in Musichi Reservations, Montes de Oca and Serrania de Bañaderos.

With the launch of the SIMAP of La Guajira, digital and satellite data will be reported on funding sources, pressures and conflicts of selected focal species, pollution problems, decrease, overflows, damming, pressures and conflicts in water sources in some areas of conservation department.

The launch event of this new and important tool will be held today, 11 February 2016, from the 2:00 pm on the premises of Corpoguajira (Riohacha).
