After its analysis and debate, the Departmental Assembly approved the draft ordinance presented by the Governor of La Guajira, Nemesio Roys Garzon, with which it is sought to advance towards the harmonious planning of the environmental ordering of the territory.

In order to generate strategies and actions aimed at harmonious planning of environmental management, the recovery of the main ecological structure and the environmental development of the department, as well as the conservation of the strategic ecosystems of the jurisdiction, the formation of the Departmental System of Protected Areas was approved by the Departmental Assembly.
The SIDAP Guajira aims to conserve protected areas and their connectivity through biological corridors that ensure the maintenance of biological diversity and ecological processes that make it possible to recover the structure for the development of the region and the well-being of the inhabitants..
The System is led by public institutions with instances of community and private participation, that allow effective governance and administration through planning instruments, politics, regulations and financial procedures that guarantee its sustainability. It is also articulated to the territorial ordering to harmonize the environmental offer with the demand for sustainable development. For its implementation, the Priority Areas for Conservation were identified and the System Work Table will be formed that allows its operation.
Guarantee the conservation of biodiversity, environmental goods and services, cultural and social heritage, are some of the commitments acquired by the actors that make up the SIDAP, among which are the Governor of the department, mayors, higher education institutions and the Regional Autonomous Corporation of La Guajira.
With the formation of SIDAP, Progress is being made towards the implementation of the actions necessary to fulfill the goals of conservation and sustainable development through restoration processes, conservation, preservation, manejo, community control and monitoring of protected areas, buffer zones, biological corridors and strategic ecosystems in the jurisdiction of La Guajira.
