The Regional Autonomous Corporation of La Guajira and the National Police, through the Environmental Protection Unit, They will increase surveillance and control actions in order to ensure the preservation of the Tomarrazón River (Riohacha).
This was explained by the General Director of Corpoguajira, Samuel Lanao Robles, during the inspection visit that he presided over in this district to address the environmental complaint of the inhabitants of said population about the alleged extraction of carry-over material from this important basin, "The corresponding inquiries will be carried out, as indicated by environmental regulations, because the situation indicates that we are facing a case of illegal mining, activity that is classified as a crime ", added.
As stated by the community leader Dalida Pinto, The request was made because they have evidenced the presence of some trucks that extract stone and sand from the river, "With this inspection that Corpoguajira is carrying out, we are sure that a solution will be given to this problem that affects this natural resource par excellence in Tomarrazón".
The environmental authority specified that this activity seriously affects the ecosystem, as it lowers the river beds, generates lagoons and ramifications of the riverbed, bank erosion, loss of vegetation and contamination of farms that are downstream.
Corpoguajira urges the inhabitants of the department to denounce any fact that represents a threat to the natural resources and biodiversity of the peninsula, All service channels can be consulted at www.corpoguajira.gov.co.
