Given the environmental crisis presented by blockage in the stream Majupay, Corpoguajira implemented the project “Adequacyón and cleaning of the Majupay stream between the Majupay and Villa Amelia neighborhoods 2 in the municipality of Maicao, La Guajira".
The above because the contamination is evident, when it is nourished in winter times, becoming a vector of diseases for the community in general, the contamination of the soil by the garbage that is thrown around the stream and in its channel, changing the chemical composition of the soil and obstructing the germination and growth of vegetation, in addition to air pollution from the decomposition of organic matter, the frequent fires and the waste and bacteria that are dispersed by the wind.
This project aims to minimize the morbidity rate and decontaminate ecosystems., minimizing the risk of flooding in areas surrounding the stream due to the removal of large volumes of sediment, weeds and localized garbage, stabilization and rehabilitation of soils in the channel and areas near the stream, eradication of insects and bad odors, improvement of the urban environment and the valorization of the properties.
Within the project executed by the Majupay Consortium, awareness workshops were provided to the community and educational institutions regarding: emergency care, climate change and how to prevent the risk.
