During 6 months a team of professionals worked hard to achieve the isolation of 15 kilometers equivalent to 85 hectares of natural forest in the Sierra Azul and Punto Claro trails in the municipality of Barrancas, in order to restore the ecosystem of the Serranía de Perijá Integrated Management District belonging to this area of the department. The project will conserve the surroundings of the Pesquería and El Salado streams, tributaries that feed the Ranchería river, which supplies a large population of the department of La Guajira.
Through the management of the Regional Autonomous Corporation of La Guajira, it is possible to benefit 1.037 habitantesof the rural and urban areas of the municipality of Barrancas. Through the passive restoration of the ecosystems of the micro-watersheds, water resources are guaranteed to the surrounding communities., recovering the forest that is the water factory and habitat for a wide variety of species of fauna and flora.
Corpoguajira promotes good environmental practices, It is for them that in this project it was decided to use plastic posts, eliminating wood for insulation., also carrying out the georeferencing of the areas actually intervened in order to facilitate the location for future interventions..
The project that was already delivered satisfactorily in the Sierra Azul village was executed hand in hand with the community, developing socialization days achieving acceptance on their part and awareness workshops on topics of: pollution of water bodies, environmental management strategies, landscape management, technical and legal specifications and finally environmental management and illegal activities in order for passive restoration to have its effect on ecosystem recovery and guarantee the appropriation of the beneficiaries.
