Project to strengthen the ecological structure of La Guajira advances

The Regional Autonomous Corporation of La Guajira, held an intersectoral work table with the aim of analyzing strategies to strengthen the ecological structure of the department, represented in its protected areas, hydrographic basins and other strategic ecosystems in this area of ​​the country.

In this sense, The participating institutions debated the implementation of different actions that will be formalized through the biodiversity and development agreement ‘Mosaico Guajira’, which will be subscribed during the first quarter of 2022 in order to formalize an alliance of wills that allows achieving the socio-ecosystem connectivity of the Department with the Caribbean.

The event was attended by representatives of the Andi, Epm, Aes, Promigas, Cerrejón, Celsius, Hocol, Enel, Tgi, Isa Intercolombia, National Natural Parks, Fao, Invemar, Understand, Humboldt Institute, Idea, among other organizations.

"We have planned to sign this agreement in the month of March, with the help of all these companies, to unite conservation efforts through environmental offsets, which are of great importance to strengthen the management plans that our protected areas and strategic ecosystems have ", explained Samuel Lanao Robles, General Manager Corpoguajira.

Meanwhile, Dora Moncada, Director of the National Center for Water and Biodiversity of the Andi, indicated that "these technical efforts, financial and logistics will allow the implementation of sustainable development programs and, especially, achieve that the private companies that are present in La Guajira, get involved in compensation plans in a more collective and decisive way ".

It is pertinent to point out that conservation mosaics are defined from the ecological point of view as networks of protected areas that seek to generate synergies between communities and institutions to strengthen and consolidate said management and sustainable development scenarios around the conservation of a prioritized ecosystem..
