There are categories to identify which risk status each species is, in the case of birds Icterus icterus(Turpial) y Cardinalis phoeniceus (Cardinal Guajiro), They were determined on state Vulnerable (VU), so Corpoguajira calls for not hunting and marketing of individuals.

Corpoguajira strengthen conservation measures in conjunction with the Ministry of Environment, Housing and Territorial Development and other entities of the National Environmental System, in order to generate actions that promote the preservation of these endangered species in the department.

La Guajira is a terriotorio with high potential for bird watching, the wealth of fauna and flora that counts this area of ​​the country makes the department coming over 57 contribuyéndole species ecotourism.

We emphasize that Cardinal Guajiro is an endemic species of the dry look of Colombian and Venezuelan Guajira even found in certain areas of the department, unlike the Turpial he has gradually disappeared from the same department for traffic, because it is a striking species able to imitate the song of other birds, and it has been restricted to the area of ​​La Macuira, Alta Guajira.
