Tomarrazón College, now powered by solar energy

The Mayor of Riohacha, Rafael Ceballos Serra; Director Corpoguajira, Luis Medina Toro and members of the community, during the inauguration of the non-conventional energy system in Tomarrazón (Riohacha).

The inhabitants of Tomarrazón (Riohacha), received from Corpoguajira, a clean technology system, consisting of the design and construction of photovoltaic panels, to generate energy, make water drinkable, operate an electric fence and freezer.

The event was chaired by the General Director of Corpoguajira, Luis Manuel Medina Toro; within the framework of the celebration of Farmer's Day. They also delivered 37 ecological stoves.

This project allows for approximate annual savings on the electricity service bill. $3.000.000; Meanwhile 7.5 tons of carbon dioxide will no longer be emitted into the environment.

The structures were installed at the Tomarrazón Agricultural Technical Educational Institution, where thanks to this management, The campus currently has a power system of 2.880 watt, environmental friendly, with which the lighting works, computer equipment, fans, the administrative area and headquarters of the library.

With this technology, a station is also operated that purifies 900 liters of water per hour, that benefits a large part of the Tomarrazón community.

The project, also includes a solar powered electric fence, which serves to protect the crops grown in the area. The fence was built with 10% of the wood used to make a traditional one.

The works were carried out in coordination with the Sersolar Foundation, with an investment of $220 millions of pesos.
