In order to prevent, prevent and control the use, mobilization, transformation, commercialization and illegal trafficking of wild species nationally and internationally, the Inter-institutional Committee for Environmental Protection CIPAG was created, body that operates in a joint and coordinated manner in accordance with its legal functions and according to current regulations on the matter. It is made up of the following entities: Corpoguajira, Government of La Guajira, Attorney, Attorney, Comptroller, National Police, THE, DIAN, ICA and local authorities.
“Together we are going to join forces so that some of the endangered species in the department do not disappear., due to its intense extraction for commercial purposes. With education campaigns and the strengthening of surveillance controls, we are sure that we will be able to protect and defend our Guajira fauna and flora ", Express Arcesio Romero Perez, General Manager Corpoguajira.
Through CIPAC, will promote and support the establishment of inter-agency work at the regional level, to coordinate the actions that allow the development of the lines of action of the national strategy for the control of illegal trafficking of wild species and actions that help to the environmental protection of La Guajira will be carried out. Additionally, planning functions will be carried out in accordance with the Law 1333 of 2009.
In search of streamlining all environmental activities that will be developed in the Department of La Guajira and by functionality of CIPAG, three subcommittees were formed: the Administrative, which will be in charge of programming the meetings and environmental activities that will be carried out through CIPAG. The second is the Education and Research Subcommittee that will guide the lines to reach the community in general with environmental education and the third is the Operational Subcommittee that will execute the activities programmed within the CIPAG and support in the prevention controls and recovery of illegal traffic. of wild fauna and flora in danger of extinction.
Among the pilot projects are to carry out in a municipality of La Guajira a campaign based on environmental education to achieve the delivery and voluntary release of wild fauna that are kept in captivity in this way, the first municipality of La Guajira free of fauna would be declared wild in captivity getting the opportunity to establish inter-administrative agreements for environmental protection.
Most important is the cooperation of all citizens, with their help we would have an environmentally sound Guajira.
For the operation of this Committee, entities that comprise human resources allocated, technical, physical and financial where appropriate.
Other features are the CIPAC:
– Conduct education programs, awareness and outreach that promote the conservation of species of wild fauna and flora and decreased illegal trafficking.
– Joining technical efforts, logistical and intelligence; operational actions aimed at supporting knowledge, conservation, control, treatment, rehabilitation and reintegration into the natural habitat of wild species.
