Given the concern by some people on social networks about the presence of black material on the beaches of Dibulla, Regional Autonomous Corporation of La Guajira to advise that:
- According to soil sampling Dibulla beaches and laboratory tests practiced, it has been determined that the dark material is present in this area Magnetite (Ferrous oxide, diiron, Fe2+Fe3+2O4).
- Magnetite is a naturally occurring mineral and reaches the beaches by the action of drag material from rivers.
- In previous studies by the laboratory soils in this area IGAC department, magnetite content is reported on a 5%.
- Magnetite is present at our Caribbean coast, from Palomino to Riohacha.
- The presence of magnetite in our beaches no danger for tourists since the mineral is naturally occurring.
- Our staff made assessment visits, monitoring and control in different parts of the beaches of Dibulla no evidence so far that the material reported by some citizens have either coal.
- During visits were carried out field tests exposing the material to a magnet noting that much of the dark particles are adhered, It is confirming that it is a mineral with high iron content, as evidenced in the attached images.
- Corpoguajira thanks residents and visitors all information provided on possible environmental effects that may be appearing on our territory.
