Through the implementation of telemetry equipment, the Regional Autonomous Corporation of La Guajira successfully executes the work to study the state of conservation, density and demographic structure of the needle caiman. With this project it will also be possible to know the location, activity, displacement and habitat of this endangered species.
The work is carried out in wetlands associated with the municipalities of Dibulla, Riohacha and Uribia.
The environmental authority indicated that the marking of three needle caimans has already been made, to carry out detailed monitoring that will provide relevant information on the distribution and migrations of this species.
“The implementation of these actions contribute, sin lugar a dudas, to strengthen the work of the Corporation for the conservation of the needle caiman, through advanced technology equipment to generate key knowledge about this species, which will allow us to continue strengthening strategies and programs for its preservation”, Fare Romero Peláez pointed out, Director (and) of Corpoguajira.
In addition, specified that the study contemplates the marking of ten caimans, with telemetry transmitters whose data can be downloaded on platforms such as Google Earth and Cvs.
