Successfully advancing in La Guajira mining formalization

La regularización de las actividades mineras de sal, arcilla y materiales de construcción en los municipios de La Guajira, It is the result of concerted and organized work between the Ministry of Mines and Energy, the Governorate, the Mayors, informal mining workers and Corpoguajira.

We propose solutions tailored to the needs of miners and local governments; measures consistent with regional projects and plans to make this process successful and sustainable.", assured the Vice Minister of Mines María Isabel Ulloa.

A serious proposal, with short term solutions, according to the needs of the sector, allow the more than 300 small miners characterized, have the option of formalizing their work, with the backing and support of their local leaders.

The search for legality is the reflection of a sustained dialogue, through the execution of planned work, that allowed the recognition of the informal productive sector, and carrying out a characterization with precise figures and situations.

On the board of directors of small miners, that was fulfilled before the director Corpoguajira, mayors and delegates of local administrations, officials of the Ministry of Mines and energy, presented progress of the mediation processes corresponding to the spaces for dialogue between a mining owner and the miners who request to be protected by a title, to carry out the activity in a legal manner.

At Present, Processes are underway in the municipalities of Fonseca, San Juan del Cesar, Manaure and Distraction, with the purpose of regularizing informal commercial activity, of the miners of these territories, through special reserve areas.

In both meetings, the mining institutions of the National Government, el Ministerio de Minas y Energía, Colombian Geological Survey (SGC), the ANM and the Mining and Energy Planning Unit (UPME), They presented to local authorities the solutions they can provide when planning and organizing mining activity in the region..
