The ecotourism adventure led by Corpoguajira, had the approximate participation of 150 people who toured the beautiful places of the protected area.
About 150 people, participated yesterday in the Montes de Oca Expedition, an event organized by Corpoguajira as part of the celebration of its 30 years old. The assistants, representatives of government entities, private company, civil society, organizaciones, academy, members of the Ecotourism Node and the media; had the opportunity to learn about the conservation objects of the Forest Reserve.
The event included the realization of a forest trial with ten tropical dry forest species, guided by professionals of the Corporation and a complete description of the processes and capabilities of the treatment plant that supplies water to the inhabitants of Maicao walks. With the completion of this activity, Corpoguajira also commemorated World Biodiversity Day yesterday.
The participants learned about the habitats required for the survival of populations of wildlife and endemic or threatened species present in the area., as the green macaw, la loose, Partridge, the dove cardonera, inter.
The expedition had the support of the University of La Guajira, Cerrejón, Lenix Foundation, Peninsula waters, National Army, Civil defense, Agricultural Institute of Carraipía, Environmental Watch Group, entre otras entidades.
The Forest Reserve Montes de Oca, comprises the northern end of the Serrania de Perija, on the international border with the Republic of Venezuela, in the jurisdiction of the municipalities of Maicao and Albania. It has approximately 200 plant species, 165 Bird, 63 mammalian and 45 herpetofauna (reptiles and amphibians). The protected area covers an area of 8.494 hectares and is one of the main providers of water in the region.
