With reforestation, Corpoguajira joins the celebration of Arbor Day

The 12 October 2014, Arbor Day will be held, to commemorate this important date environmental, Regional Autonomous Corporation of La Guajira, lidera varias jornadas de reforestación y aseo en Riohacha, Manaure, Camarones y Hatonuevo.

Las actividades iniciaron el día de hoy y se extenderán hasta el próximo lunes 14 October this year. Los árboles, frutales y nativos, serán sembrados, environmental and community leaders, in order to support national mitigation strategy carbon footprint and mitigate this area of the country the effects of global warming.

The celebration of Arbor Day was instituted in 1969 by the World Forestry Congress, in Rome. On that date it seeks to highlight the importance of trees in the life of planet Earth, Ecosystem, flora, wildlife and humans.

Seven reasons to plant trees:

1. Trees reduce pollution: The leaves of trees retain dust particles floating in the air, by preventing inhale of breath.

2. Oxygenate the air: Leaves fix atmospheric CO2, el cual es un producto residual del metabolismo humano y animal y de la quema de combustibles, además de producir grandes cantidades de oxígeno.

3. Cool atmosphere: The plants, besides photosynthesis, develop other processes such as evapotranspiration. Leaves release water vapor that cools the air and moistens. Plantar árboles alrededor de las casas puede refrescarlas entre un 10% and 50%. De esta manera disminuye el uso de los sistemas de refrigeración que también contaminan el ambiente.

4. Reduce noise pollution: The great masses of leaves act as cushions noise generated by traffic, industries and operation of the city.

5. They are small ecosystems: Each tree functions as a true ecosystem, sobre él viven aves e insectos.

6. Involved in the water cycle: The roots retain rainwater, allowing it to slowly seep through the soil into groundwater and that addresses slowly into rivers, maintaining stable flow and preventing droughts and floods.

7. Protect soil: Prevent erosion and wear resistance, sosteniendo las partículas del suelo con sus raíces.
