With reforestation, Corpoguajira joins the celebration of Arbor Day

The 12 October 2014, Arbor Day will be held, to commemorate this important date environmental, Regional Autonomous Corporation of La Guajira, leads several days of reforestation and cleanup in Riohacha, Manaure, Shrimp and Hatonuevo.

The activities began today and will continue until next Monday 14 October this year. The trees, fruit and native, will be sown, environmental and community leaders, in order to support national mitigation strategy carbon footprint and mitigate this area of the country the effects of global warming.

The celebration of Arbor Day was instituted in 1969 by the World Forestry Congress, in Rome. On that date it seeks to highlight the importance of trees in the life of planet Earth, Ecosystem, flora, wildlife and humans.

Seven reasons to plant trees:

1. Trees reduce pollution: The leaves of trees retain dust particles floating in the air, by preventing inhale of breath.

2. Oxygenate the air: Leaves fix atmospheric CO2, which is a residual product of human and animal metabolism and the burning of fuels, in addition to producing large amounts of oxygen.

3. Cool atmosphere: The plants, besides photosynthesis, develop other processes such as evapotranspiration. Leaves release water vapor that cools the air and moistens. Planting trees around houses can cool them between a 10% and 50%. In this way, the use of refrigeration systems that also pollute the environment is reduced..

4. Reduce noise pollution: The great masses of leaves act as cushions noise generated by traffic, industries and operation of the city.

5. They are small ecosystems: Each tree functions as a true ecosystem, birds and insects live on it.

6. Involved in the water cycle: The roots retain rainwater, allowing it to slowly seep through the soil into groundwater and that addresses slowly into rivers, maintaining stable flow and preventing droughts and floods.

7. Protect soil: Prevent erosion and wear resistance, holding soil particles with its roots.
