
It is an area of tropical dry forest in the Ranchería River basin., between the municipalities of Riohacha, Manaure, Maicao y Albania.
Corpoguajira and Biota Foundation, currently constructing the baseline, characterization and management plan of a tropical dry forest area in the Ranchería river basin, for its declaration as a protected natural area, in the jurisdiction of the municipalities of Riohacha, Manaure, Maicao y Albania.
The proposed study area, It has an approximate extension of 36.390 hectares and is made up of fifty-five indigenous communities of the Wayúu ethnic group.
To date, biophysical studies have been advanced in the area., the social characterization and analysis of the properties that are part of the site of interest. Over the next few days, The process of prior consultation with the Wayúu indigenous communities will begin, settled in the area.
This initiative of the Biota foundation, won the fourth call made by Conserva Colombia, which is sponsored by the Fund for Environmental Action and Children, The Nature Conservancy and Cerrejón. Corpoguajira will participate in the financing of the project, to promptly address the feasibility of completing the declaration of the new protected area, in the lower basin of the Ranchería River.
