In La Guajira increased controls to prevent trafficking in illegal timber, in order to ensure the conservation of natural forests.

In the company of the Public Force, Corpoguajira reinforced operations to detect illegal timber trafficking. With the installation of different control points and the timely notice of the community, have been seized so far from 2016 total 28, 58 cubic meters in the north; while in the southern part of the department they have seized 6,46 m3 de material.

Not carrying the corresponding documents to prove the origin of the cargo, have false papers, driving on unregulated routes, transport species that are considered endangered; These are some of the offenses that most offenders commit and determine the seizure of the product.

Considering that Corpoguajira is one of the signatory entities of the "Intersectoral Pact for Legal Wood in Colombia" and in order to ensure that the chain of custody of the material comes from legal sources, the Corporation will continue to carry out surveillance actions, to control the use of timber products in the department.

As indicated by the Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development, natural forests represent the country a 52,2% of the total area, functioning as a shelter for a great diversity of fauna and flora.

Last Operation

Thanks to the community call, se logró incautar un total de 3,6 cubic meters of wood belonging to the Algarrobillo species, Snail and Oak. The operation was carried out by members of the Environmental Police, in the vicinity of the path Carraipía (Maicao).

The seized product was registered in the Single Act of Control of Illegal Traffic No. 012055 and was delivered to the Subdirectorate of Environmental Authority and General Secretariat of the Corporation for the pertinent purposes.

They moved to the Collection Center of the entity, located in Rio Claro (Dibulla), total 37 blocks and 10 tables of the Algarrobillo species; 15 snail tables and 4 blocks of the oak species. The commercial value of the product is estimated to be 2. 289.000 A thousand pesos.

The seizure of timber is declared final confiscation because their use was illegally, the species come from the natural forest in buffer zones to the area of ​​the Montes de Oca Protective Forest Reserve (sector, Carraipía).
