Continue actions Corpoguajira, to mitigate effects of climate change

In order to seek strategic mechanisms designed to mitigate the effects generated by climate change in coastal areas of La Guajira, through the strengthening of institutional capacities for the implementation of local practices of Comprehensive Risk Management, Corpoguajira began the implementation of a project to Strengthen Environmental and Territorial Planning, providing assistance for risk prevention in the most vulnerable populations of La Guajira Colombiana, in the framework of adaptability and mitigation of this phenomenon.

In this sense, the next 28 February 2012, an event-workshop will be held, that seeks to know public opinion on the subject, socialize the scope and engage the work with the entire Guajira community. Some of the topics to be developed are the following:

– The Project “Prevention of Risks from Coastal and Marine Erosion in the most vulnerable populations of La Guajira Colombian-Venezuelan, within the framework of adaptability and mitigation of climate change”.
– Coastal Erosion: study, impact and future in the Caribbean basin, and in La Guajira.
– Progress of the technical and social components of the project.

Among the special guests who will participate in this important activity, The participation of: Francisco Cordoba, Technical Director, STUDENT Consultants; Rafael Guardado Lacaba, Moa Metallurgical Institute –Cuba- and Priscila Celedón, CAF Project Coordinator – Corpoguajira, Colombia.

In the year 2010, Corpoguajira signed a particular agreement with the Andean Development Corporation, CAF, which seeks to carry out actions to prevent Risks from Coastal and Marine Erosion in the most vulnerable populations of La Guajira Colombian-Venezuelan, within the framework of adaptability and mitigation of climate change.

Currently, the teams hired by both entities are developing technical and social actions in order to generate and compile information of interest on the issue of coastal erosion., to present products that serve as tools for municipal decision-making, committees and other organizations that manage risk care and prevention in communities in the area.

The event will take place from the 8:00 a.m. in the facilities of the Riohacha Cultural Center.
