Corpoguajira alerts on the occurrence of forest fires

Corpoguajira makes a call to farmers and peasants, not to burn in this season of strong winds and absence of rainfall, at the risk of starting a forest fire.
The entity specified that, as predicted by the Institute of Hydrology, Meteorology and Environmental Studies, Idea, the dry or less rainy season
could be extended until March 2022.

"The use of fire in agriculture and grassland regeneration activities is the main cause of forest fires, especially in this time. Such a situation could spread flames without any control, consuming significant areas of plant material; causing serious environmental effects on our ecosystems ", explained Samuel Lanao Robles, General Manager Corpoguajira.

In addition, indicated that it is working in an articulated manner with territorial entities and risk management committees in the implementation of contingency plans that include prevention actions, mitigation and education in the face of this phenomenon.

To avoid any irregular situation that could trigger a conflagration, Corpoguajira recommends not making bonfires in rural areas, or throw cigarette butts or burning objects on the ground. In case of taking vacation walks, you must do a correct collection of waste and do not leave glass bottles, cans, plastics or other items likely to ignite a fire.

It should be noted that La Guajira, is a department conducive to forest fires, because the low humidity, the low presence of cloudiness and high temperatures, become determining factors for these claims to occur, mainly in the mountain systems of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta and the Serranía del Perijá.
