Corpoguajira, as the highest environmental authority of the department, will provide its support and technical accompaniment to the initiatives of the Program to Benefit Communities (PBC), that the hydrocarbon companies advance in the peninsula.
The Corporation made its relationship official through the signing of the memorandum of understanding, which was also signed by the Ministry of Mines and Energy, the Ministry of Housing, City and Territory and the Directorate of the Colombian Geological Service.
The PBC will be implemented through the investment made by companies dedicated to the oil industry, as part of its Social Responsibility policy, within the framework of hydrocarbon exploration and production and technical evaluation contracts, signed with the National Hydrocarbons Agency, so that in the execution of these, sustainable development is promoted in the respective areas of influence, seeking community integration.
The works that Corpoguajira will support, will consider the diagnosis, design, implementation and monitoring of the systems required to provide a definitive solution to the water shortage that affects the Wayúu communities, located in upper and middle Guajira, as well as in the areas of influence of the PBC.
The launch of the program took place on February 1, 2014, with the participation of the Minister of Mines and Energy, Amylkar Acosta Medina; the Director General of Corpoguajira, Luis Manuel Medina Toro; representatives of different entities of the National Government, directors of the companies Repsol and Ecopetrol, de la UK, of the Colombian Geological Survey and leaders of the Wayúu communities of Upper Guajira.
