Corpoguajira articulates actions to preserve coastal ecosystems of the guajira

Formulate adaptation measures based on coastal marine ecosystems that increase their resilience and reduce vulnerability to climate change, is the object of the agreement signed between the Environmental Corporation of the University of Antioquia (UDEA) and the Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development (MADS).

This study will be applied in the 5 CARs from the Caribbean and the Colombian Pacific, among which is Corpoguajira. The information collection and analysis phase is supported by holding workshops in each Regional Autonomous Corporation..

Corpoguajira summoned institutions such as the Red Cross, National Parks, Mayors of coastal municipalities and Government among others, so that through the exposition of the actions implemented by each entity, Strategies are designed to apply through sustainable productive systems, the use of the resources provided by the marine-coastal ecosystems of the Pacific, Caribbean and Island.

With the results of this agreement, it is expected to have guidelines for the formulation of adaptation measures; a manual of good practices in their implementation; a methodological guide for prioritization; a diagnosis and technical guidelines of production systems for the sustainable use of goods and services in marine-coastal areas (peaceful, Caribbean and Island).

It should be noted that this study contributes to the implementation of the National Environmental Policy for the Sustainable Development of Oceanic Spaces and Coastal and Island Zones of Colombia (PNAOCI); take the necessary measures to increase the resilience and reduce the vulnerability of regions to climate change; assess the capacity of ecosystems to provide goods and services; prevent conflicts over use and access to natural resources; and, generate the design of the Green Growth strategy.

The socialization of results and successful experiences will be done in December 2017 and the delivery of the final documentation of the study is scheduled for March 2018.
