The Regional Autonomous Corporation of La Guajira began a training cycle aimed at officials of different municipal entities that are part of the Risk Management Councils, with the purpose of strengthening the capacities of these organizations and providing tools for their participants to improve their understanding of the technical products issued from the Early Warning System -SAT- that Corpoguajira leads.
The sessions, dictated by meteorologist Claudia Torres, are carried out virtually and will run until the next 26 November.
“This initiative is one more opportunity to enrich our knowledge in risk management through the technical assistance that we are providing in everything related to concepts of time and climate and their incidence in the department.. Additionally, it allows us to continue promoting a culture of disaster prevention through education and outreach ", explained Samuel Lanao Robles, General Manager Corpoguajira.
Among the topics covered are:, inter alia, concepts about meteorology, atmospheric weather, Weather forecast, use of information and climate variability and prediction.
It should be noted that the SAT of the environmental authority is part of a series of measures that seek to prevent or mitigate problems that can generate the phenomena of flooding and landslides, which can be triggered mainly by intense rains or anthropic activities, like indiscriminate logging, in order to have a first approach that allows the making of suitable and timely decisions to address these situations.
