The Regional Autonomous Corporation of La Guajira, carries out inspection visits to the works being carried out in various parts of the region in order to ensure proper operation of the projects that promote sustainable development, consistent with the conservation of the environment.

In this regard, the Corporation executes in indigenous communities (rural zone) of the municipalities of Riohacha, Manaure, India, Maicao and Uribia, the project for the rehabilitation of the groundwater supply system operated by windmills and the strengthening of food security with the creation of orchards or family farms located in an area close to the homes and that produce a variety of complementary foods such as vegetables, Fruits and vegetables.

The system was designed in order to supply water (for consumption and agricultural activities) to the inhabitants of these communities. The liquid is collected from an underground source through a windmill and distributed to storage tanks.. In the case of crops, a system of drip irrigation allows the earth remains suitable for the production was designed.

One of the communities benefiting from this project is El Ceibales (Riohacha), where they benefit directly from the system, 10 families living in the area; while indirectly benefiting 8 families from nearby communities, who come to the place to stock up on water.

At the departmental level, his 16 the families with the implementation of this system. However, the Corporation seeks to benefit more than 70 families in order to ensure the supply of water and food security.

The project includes the delivery of inputs (seeds), technical assistance and training for the community to be responsible for the use and maintenance of the system.

It should be noted that this initiative was made by professionals Corpoguajira and submitted to the Ministry of Agriculture, who through Incoder it signed an agreement with the Corporation for project implementation.
