The Regional Autonomous Corporation of La Guajira-Corpoguajira, held a space for consultation with the inhabitants of 6 indigenous communities of the rural area of Riohacha and Maicao, with the purpose of presenting the scope of the project that guarantees water supply and food security; which will benefit more than 800 people.

Through prior consultation, The Corporation carried out this participation mechanism with the communities of La Sabana, Sabanagrande, Los Melones and Paseramana (Riohacha); Oüispa and Yosumana (Maicao). The result of this query, was the approval of the project by traditional authorities and indigenous leaders, for its execution.

These communities will be pioneers in the department, with the implementation of a supply system, which is based on the use of solar energy (panels), which drives a submersible pump and sends water from the deep well to an elevated tank (6 meters high), for later distribution. This system does not require the use of windmills for water extraction..

Likewise, Filters will be installed that will allow water treatment, for later consumption. While for domestic and agricultural use, Several collection points will be built in the communities.

This project also contemplates strengthening food security with the creation of family gardens or farms located in an area close to homes and that produce a variety of complementary foods such as vegetables., Fruits and vegetables.

The Corporation undertakes to deliver supplies (seeds), provide technical assistance and training so that the beneficiaries themselves are responsible for the use and maintenance of the system. Meanwhile, the communities, Through a conservation agreement, they undertake to responsibly assume environmental conservation actions..
