Corpoguajira, committed to the water supply Maicao

alt
To mitigate the effects of drought, Corpoguajira built a well to supply water, that benefits more than 200 indigenous people of Maicao.

As part of the works planned by Corpoguajira to address the problems associated with drought that occurs every year in the department of La Guajira; The environmental authority successfully completed the construction of an underground well in the indigenous communities of Kasiche, the Parcela and Wayumano, settled in the rural area of the municipality of Maicao.

With this work they benefit more than 200 members of the Wayúu ethnic group, who no longer have to make long walks to the reservoir or artisanal well that they previously had, in which they stored brackish water contaminated with bacteria, being at risk of acquiring gastrointestinal diseases, diarrhea and skin rashes.

The well built by Corpoguajira, has a depth of 150 meters and is capable of generating 100 cubic meters of water per hour. The work, which was previously socialized with their beneficiaries, included drilling activities, making electrical recordings, piping, pumping tests, inter.

This project was supported by Colciencias, through the convening Ideas for Change. Corpoguajira supported the dissemination process and participation of the communities and organizations involved and the financing of the work.
