DELIVERY CORPOGUAJIRA MICROACUEDUCTO African descent and indigenous communities Riohacha

The environmental authority of the department, Corpoguajira formulated the project “Construction of a pathway aqueduct for the black and indigenous communities of the Totumo micro-basin, Tapias river basin in the municipality of Riohacha, department of La Guajira ", with which the basic infrastructure was achieved for the continuous supply and good quality of water for consumption by the inhabitants, thus guaranteeing that the population enjoys the aqueduct service.

Given the need in Afro-descendant and indigenous communities (Naranjal communities, the Table and the Totumo) belonging to the middle part of the Tapias river basin are not immune to this situation, because the general shortage, displacement of families, the non-existence of the municipal aqueduct service, They meant that the population had to move to nearby water sources and transport the liquid in animals to their homes, thus generating morbidity problems associated with poor water quality and deterioration in the standard of living of its inhabitants.

Taking into account that a large part of the population in the rural area of the municipality of Riohacha does not have an adequate water supply system, where the good quality of the precious liquid is not guaranteed to the population, causing a deterioration in the quality of life, in the execution of the project, the construction of the intake in concrete was guaranteed, the intake line - desander, sand trap in waterproofed concrete, drinking water treatment plant, storage tank in waterproofed concrete, distribution networks and the enclosure for the protection of the system.

The water saving and efficient use workshops, just as the formation of the water and education committees will be fundamental for the durability of the project, since the communities were trained to give the system proper functioning.

The delivery of the work with a differential approach was carried out through a service verification tour with the participation of Corpoguajira, the contractor company Consorcio Naranjal, the Secretary of Infrastructure and Public Services of the District and the inhabitants of the 3 benefited communities. Likewise, Conservation agreements were established with each representative of the community where they assume responsibility for the proper management of the system and commitments with the District to guarantee the sustainability of the micro-aqueduct that provides quality of life to 60 department families.
