Corpoguajira delivered recommendations before the rainy season and thunderstorms

Corpoguajira, through the Early Warning System, reiterated to the emergency authorities that moderate to heavy rains will continue to occur in the coming months, accompanied by thunderstorms, in different sectors of the Department.

The entity specified that according to IDEAM predictions, oceanic and atmospheric conditions remain within the thresholds of La Niña; therefore it is estimated that during September, October and November, rainfall is higher than 30% above historical averages in La Guajira.

In addition, indicated that there is a probability of sudden flooding in the rivers that descend from the mountain systems, floods, mass movements, torrential avenues and gales.

The entity urged the community in general to remain calm in any emergency situation; avoid driving vehicles when it rains; if you live near rivers or hillsides, be very attentive and notify the authorities if abnormal changes such as noises are identified, drop of material or change of color in the water.

Likewise, in the event of an electrical storm, recommended sheltering in a safe place; do not stand under trees or communication antennas; unplug appliances and refrain from cell phone use until the electrical shocks are over.

Finally, indicated that it is also vitally important to clean and secure the roofs, canals and gutters of houses to prevent flooding, and motivate relatives and neighbors to develop emergency plans, where those responsible for informing the community and directing activities in the event of any eventuality are established.
