Corpoguajira praised the declaration of the private reserve of civil society Aguas Blancas – Santa Helena – Mushaisa

With the act of registration of the private reserve of civil society Aguas Blancas – Santa Helena – Mushaisa, carried out by National Natural Parks of Colombia and Cerrejón, the department of La Guajira completes a total of 24 protected areas that contribute to the conservation of strategic ecosystems of the peninsula.
This was explained by the General Director of Corpoguajira, Samuel Lanao Robles, who highlighted the declaration of this area of ​​approximately 2.000 hectares; "The reserve will generate significant impacts, taking into account that it will contribute to the preservation and natural restoration of an important area of ​​tropical dry forest and to the protection of the biodiversity present in this sector of our territory ".

In addition, indicated that the environmental authority is carrying out actions for the constitution of six new regional protected areas, which would be added to the ten that have already been declared by the Corporation. Meanwhile, the Director of National Natural Parks of Colombia, Pedro Molano Perez, he pointed
that the National Government provided all the support to achieve the protection of this natural heritage of La Guajira, "From the institutions we reaffirm all our commitment to these initiatives that are undoubtedly key to the restoration of the country's representative ecosystems and to preserve their productive capacity".

The new reserve will become a point of biological connectivity, as explained by Cerrejón's Environmental Management Manager, Luis Madriñán, “In this place we have identified more than 350 flora species and more than 200 Bird, many of them are endemic. We are going to implement a management plan to comply with the conservation objectives and to consolidate an area that contributes to the sustainability of La Guajira and the country ". It should be noted that trees such as the puy stand out in the area, the guayacán de bola and the quebracho; as for the species of fauna there are raccoons, white deer, inter alia.
