CORPOGUAJIRA FINALIZED THE FOREST ECOSYSTEM REHABILITATION PROJECT IN THE RANCHERÍA RIVER BASINS, TAPIAS AND CESAR

Its execution was carried out in the rural areas of the municipalities of Riohacha, San Juan del Cesar, Manaure and Albania.

The Regional Autonomous Corporation of La Guajira - Corpoguajira, in order to rehabilitate gallery and riparian forests in the Ranchería river basins, Tapias and Cesar in the municipalities of Riohacha, San Juan del Cesar, Manaure and Albania, implemented for a year a project for the rehabilitation of forest ecosystems that allowed planting in degraded areas with their respective georeferencing; fencing of vegetation cover of gallery or riparian forests; assembly of monitoring plots and also workshops for socialization and environmental awareness aimed at project beneficiaries.

With the implementation of this project they benefited 156.290 inhabitants the municipalities of San Juan del Cesar, India, Riohacha, Manaure, including indigenous population. Coupled with it, they signed 214 direct conservation agreements, where forest species typical of the dry forest were planted such as: Puy, fine heart, Ollita de mono, Ball Guayacan. Also Macaw, Mulatto, Yaguaro, Trupillo, Espinito colorao, species with great conservation impact in the department

In the Cesar River basin, 74 properties in which they were installed 79,8 kilometers of fences and began a process of both passive and active restoration.

With regard to the upper Ranchería River basin, they intervened 22 properties in which they were installed 66,217 kilometers of fences and a passive and active restoration process was also carried out.

Similarly, monitoring and follow-up of permanent vegetation plots was developed, total 25 distributed in the three basins: Rancheria, Cesar and Tapias, of which 8 were installed in the municipality of San Juan del Cesar.

"This type of project leads to the protection of forest areas in which water resources emerge, benefiting a large number of people directly and indirectly with the restoration process ", specified by the supervisor of the contract by the Corporation, Manuel Manjarres.

Meanwhile, Mrs. Mabel Ester Vega, benefit in the path El Placer, Jurisdiction of San Juan del Cesar specified "I am happy that Corpoguajira has implemented this project and the changes in the vegetation are already seen, in the basin, a total reforestation process ".
