Corpoguajira strengthens conservation actions alligators and caiman

Corpoguajira and George Dahl Foundation, signed a partnership through which the implementation of conservation program alligators and caiman be strengthened, actions by monitoring and protecting these reptiles, in coastal wetlands of La Guajira.

Duties include the active participation of members of the communities in the area of ​​influence of the project, with whom they will be built, in concert, agreements necessary for the protection of these species.

The actions also include the assessment of potential effects caused by El Niño on populations of alligators and caimans in La Guajira, to establish the lines of action required to mitigate the impacts of climate change.

In addition, genetic characterization was performed alligator populations needle, species is currently threatened by the rapid destruction of their habitat, extraction or hunting of all ages, use their eggs, skin and the impending boom in the tourism industry.
