The Regional Autonomous Corporation of La Guajira through coordination with local authorities of the department and the Association of Biologists of the University of the Atlantic (ABIUDEA), implements a system of environmental governance to strengthen conservation, protection and restoration of natural resources in 7 protected areas have been declared in the department. These actions seek to support strengthening the control and surveillance of forests, river microcuencas, endemic or threatened species, fauna and Flora, and landscape values of protected areas of La Guajira; District Integrated Management Musichi, DMI Cerro Bañaderos, DMI Serrania del Perija, Lower Basin Rio Rancheria, Delta Rio Ranchería, Protected Forest Reserve Manantial de Cañaverales and RFP Montes de Oca.
It also seeks to integrate ecosystem services in sustainable development planning of protected areas, in order to increase the environmental awareness of the people to that way there is a greater governance and use of natural resources and that lead to natural areas become sustainable. Corpoguajira in order to improve the environmental conditions of the department and the quality of life of those who inhabit, It is implementing alliances and timely actions for conservation and environmental recovery, in order to solve various environmental problems that arise and sustainably use natural resources in different areas with high ecological value of La Guajira.
