The Regional Autonomous Corporation of La Guajira, Conservation International, Cerrejón and the community associations Asobruno and Raíz del Agua signed conservation agreements in order to guarantee the protection and restoration of the middle and upper basins of Arroyo Bruno.
These agreements seek to improve the structure and conditions of ecosystem connectivity of the middle and upper basin of Arroyo Bruno, through compensation measures that allow achieving sustainable management of ecosystem services, hydrological and restoration actions, recovery and rehabilitation of degraded areas in the basin.
The above through actions developed by the community itself, that allow restoring degraded areas, maintain productive systems associated with conservation, reforestation with local plants and the strengthening of community organizations. Work that in turn will empower families neighboring the stream in the development of sustainable agricultural practices that do not generate negative impacts on the water circuit..
It should be noted that the signing of these agreements is part of the Comprehensive Environmental Compensation Plan imposed by Corpoguajira on Cerrejón., as a result of the project to partially modify the Arroyo Bruno channel for the development of the La Puente pit.
