Corpoguajira hace frente a emergencia provocada por incendios forestales en la Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta

Officials from the Regional Autonomous Corporation of La Guajira traveled to the area affected by the fire that affects several points of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta near the municipality of Dibulla.

The visit to the affected area was carried out to diagnose the environmental damage caused by the flames in the forest area..

Throughout the emergency, Corpoguajira has been attentive to its evolution and actions are already being planned to face the consequences that result at the end of it.. As a first measure, an evaluation committee was created that will be responsible for determining the area of degradation that the fires left behind in the forests.. Once the affected lands have been delimited, restoration actions will be implemented, which consist of recovering vegetation by planting trees.

To prevent emergencies such as those that are still being controlled in the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta from recurring again, the Director General of Corpoguajira, Engineer Luis Medina Toro, recommended to the citizens, through statements to national media, to avoid causing fires in the forests, because these can get out of control and cause serious damage to the ecosystems of the Guajira mountain ranges..
