The environmental authority vehemently rejects what happened in the District of Riohacha with a pelican.

The Regional Autonomous Corporation of La Guajira - Corpoguajira vehemently rejects what happened to a pelican in the District of Riohacha who was buried with a knife in his body. Similarly, calls on citizens to respect and protect biodiversity.

"The call is to the community to preserve wildlife, to reflect on the acts that threaten it and recognize the value of biodiversity ", emphasized the General Director of the Corporation, Samuel Lanao Robles.

The case was brought to the attention of the environmental authority through social networks where the inhabitants of the Villa Fátima neighborhood report the presence of a (Pelicanus occidentalis) with a knife under his wing.

Immediately the officials of the Corporation traveled to the place with the support of the Environmental Police and made a journey in their search where they managed to spot the pelican in the area known as Cangrejito. Despite attempts to catch the animal to give it the appropriate attention, it was not possible. However, it was confirmed that on the left side of the body under the wing there was a buried knife.

The environmental authority initiated the pertinent investigations that allow them to clarify who could be responsible for this act. It is the second time in less than a month where this species is brutally attacked by the community, the first case was registered in the municipality of Fonseca.
