With the reforestation of 358 hectares of timber species and the disposal of 58 miles of isolation, Regional Autonomous Corporation of La Guajira, bets on the recovery of the ecosystems present in the Montes de Oca protective forest reserve.
As explained by Samuel Lanao Robles, General Manager Corpoguajira, the works contribute to the preservation of water resources, greenhouse gas regulation, soil conservation, mitigate erosion and create habitats for wildlife.
“This rehabilitation project is essential to safeguard this regional protected area; It also guarantees the regulation of water, soil protection and capture of carbon dioxide”, added Lanao Robles.
The environmental authority also specified that the work is carried out in coordination with the Agua Luna foundation., and that in the framework of the project there has been unskilled labor from the beneficiary communities and with the accompaniment and participation of the guardians of the environment and peace.. At the same time, socialization and environmental awareness workshops have been carried out with the inhabitants of the area..
It should be noted that this place is considered a water factory for more than 150.000 inhabitants of the municipalities of Maicao and Albania; features 13 creeks and streams, is ideal for hiking and explorations that allow observation of flora and fauna place. It is the habitat of more than 200 kinds of plants, 177 bird species and 67 mammal species.
