Managing Director, Luis Medina Toro, socializes the project to the community Urumita, where they will build in this territory 50 efficient stoves hardware kit.

With the purpose of reducing polluting emissions into the environment and improving the quality of life of inhabitants in rural communities., Regional Autonomous Corporation of La Guajira, within forest and biodiversity conservation actions, advances the execution of the project called “Construction of efficient stoves to reduce firewood consumption and establishment of agroforestry systems” in Urumita and Maicao.

In these municipalities, around 1.320 people, those who carry out agricultural and livestock activities. They will also be built 220 efficient stoves hardware kit, in those places.

The model of these ecological stoves is designed to produce a high range of heat with low consumption of firewood., It has an integrated chimney that expels smoke to the outside. The system is effective because all the elements that make it up are designed to substantially reduce the amount of firewood that must be used and to optimize the cooking process..

It also makes household chores easier., since many beneficiary families cooked on traditional stoves on very fragile structures that required daily repairs; plus having to deal with the smoke.

The Corporation conducted studies establishing that an average home that uses the traditional open hearth system, consume 40 logs per day and with the use of wood-saving stoves they are used on average 11 logs which allows savings of 29 logs a day.

One of the objectives of the execution of this initiative is to reduce the impacts generated by the felling of trees and protect the population from respiratory diseases., skin and eyes.

The project includes training communities in the use of ecological stoves and the planting of wood energy crops., which is the cultivation of fast-growing woody plants so that they are self-sufficient and avoid logging in surrounding ecosystems. Likewise, The Corporation contemplates a conservation agreement with the community as a strategy to strengthen forest protection, through the implementation of agroforestry activities.
