The maximum environmental authority successfully forward a project that develops sustainable agro-ecological practices, to discourage the use of agrochemicals with synergies on food security, in rural communities located on the Caribbean trunk road, in areas near Dibulla, Riohacha and several municipalities in the south of the peninsula. With the execution of these tasks the application serves producers and farmers, in relation to the increasing deterioration of the orchards in the region.
Agroecology is a relatively new scientific discipline, that compared to conventional agronomy, It is based on the application of the concepts and principles of the design ecology, development and management of sustainable agricultural systems.
Shares have the advice of Agricultural Engineering and Master of Science in Plant Production , Leonardo Blanco Rodríguez, from Cuba, who has trained over 250 peasants, technical, professionals in the field, teachers and principals of the five municipalities with the highest production of fruit in the department.
In this opportunity, Corpoguajira reaches the peasant farm, where real-time and the presence of the owners, engineers, technicians and officials of the Umatas, a full induction on performing pruning and thinning training is provided; Grafts, organic fertilizers and techniques to decrease the incidence of fruit flies (considered one of the ten agricultural pests of major economic importance in the world), without the use of pesticides to control.
Among the results of this work performed by Corpoguajira it is important to highlight the creation of an agro-ecological committee of farmers and technicians, to promote the development of fruit growing, whose coordinator is the head of each municipality Umata.
Meanwhile the educational institutions of the beneficiary municipalities, han creado agroecological groups, which have achieved, with advice from Corpoguajira, make homemade traps to control the fruit fly, through the recycling of plastic bottles.
