Understanding that plans Shedding Sanitation and Management (PSMV) are aimed at sanitation and treatment of wastewater and reduction of the polluting load thereof generated in populated centers, non-compliance or non-execution of the same would result in contamination of bodies of surface water, underground and soil, carrying risks for human life and health.
In compliance with the above, Corpoguajira initiated a sanctioning process imposing an environmental sanction against the municipality of Maicao and the operating company Aguas de la Península S.A. E.S.P., for non-compliance with the discharge norm regarding the removal of the polluting load from the receiving liquid effluent system; generating risks for fauna, flora and human beings that inhabit the surrounding area, mostly indigenous wayuú, they can receive odorless and colorless waters, characteristics that confuse and can be used for domestic consumption without knowing its origin.
Likewise, total abandonment is evident in the current oxidation lagoon, the upper slopes are eroded and destroyed, vegetation exists outside and within the system, on the sides there is a large disposal of solid waste, it does not have a waterproof membrane that prevents the infiltration of residual water into the subsoil.
Given the non-compliance in the annual presentation of the reports discriminated against to the environmental authority and other non-compliance with the norm and polluting loads to the environment, an environmental sanction was ordered for both institutions, which must discharge the wastewater with its due treatment., submit periodic reports of the progress and compliance with the standard to Corpoguajira, fully comply with the Sanitation and Dumping Management Plan, among other provisions.
