Corpoguajira, Incoder and rice farmers, concertan measures to mitigate effects of El Niño

Director Corpoguajira, Luis Medina Toro and representatives of the Government of La Guajira, Agrarian and Environmental, Incoder and Rancheria Project; met with the La Guajira Rice Committee, Asoranchería and several farmers in the south of the department; to analyze and agree on the measures to be implemented during the dry season, the availability of water resources and actions to mitigate the effects of the El Niño phenomenon, on the peninsula.

During the work table, Corpoguajira announced that they will carry out more severe controls against the granted water concessions, keeping track of your update status, legalization and payments, to regulate the agricultural sector in this territory.

In the next days Corpoguajira will issue an administrative act through which the use and consumption of water will be restricted for new rice growing establishments, from the preparation of the land, during the dry season.

For its part, the administration of the Ranchería Project, He stated that the 17% of the El Cercado dam opening valve, as long as the river flow does not decrease to 1.5 cubic meter per second. In that case the pertinent measures will be adopted, previous agreement with the users.

Meanwhile, rice farmers pledged to implement planting control, good agricultural practices and to make efficient use and save water in their activities.
